Release dated 12 December – ‘Colchester’s Best New Business Award’
The winner of the prestigious 2006 Best Business Start Up Award was announced at the Sponsors’ Christmas Drinks held at the Colchester Business Enterprise Agency (Colbea) on 8 December.
Competition for the award was stiff, with over 200 new businesses having started up after receiving advice or training from the Agency during the course of the year. The business advisers from Colbea had nominated businesses, which in their opinion, had been well planned and looked to have the best long term potential. From this shortlist, three finalists were drawn, all of whom were present on the night.
The award went to Simon Williamson, whose company, Gatekeeper Automated Gates, began trading in April 2005. Simon received his award from Colchester’s Mayor, Cllr Terry Sutton. The Mayoress, Mrs Wilma Sutton, was also present. Simon received a plaque, an arrangement of flowers, a Philips Speech Processing Dictation machine, and a voucher for business training worth £850.
The two runners up were Sarah Banks from Colne Valley Connection magazine, and Andrew Dayman and James Boon from ‘A Touch of Care’. The runners up also received flowers and vouchers for business training.
