02.06.2010

Brand new office premises are under construction at the prestigious Colchester Business Park.

A topping out ceremony took place on Tuesday 1 June, attended by Cllr Lyn Barton, Planning and Sustainability Portfolio Holder at Colchester Borough Council; Fiona Bryant, EEDA Area Director for Essex, Southend and Thurrock, and Bob Baggalley, Chief Executive of Colbea.

Due to open in January 2011, the building sits at the northern edge of the Colchester Business Park and will provide 7,500 sq ft of space divided into 28 offices suitable for small businesses both existing and new start’s. The building will include a staffed reception area, a training room, a meeting room, full ITC connectivity and, professional and impartial business advice from Colbea’s Business Advisors.

“This new Business Incubation Centre will mean that new business start ups and existing small businesses can have offices at a professionally run site without the usual associated office overheads and long term commitments” says Bob Baggalley, Colbea’s Chief Executive. “Colbea will be managing this state of the art new Business Incubation Centre and will be offering ‘easy in easy out’ a Tenancy at Will with fully inclusive rent’s so that tenants are not tied to a long lease and worried by unknown overhead costs – an important factor for the small business owner.” Colbea already manages the Central Colchester Business Centre in George Williams Way, which has 36 offices. Advice and training from Colbea has helped many new business start-ups over the past years.

Construction of the new business centre is supported by Colchester Borough Council and the East of England Development Agency.

Cllr Lyn Barton, Planning and Sustainability Portfolio Holder, said: “We are committed to increasing opportunities for enabling job creation and this marks an exciting milestone in the progress of the new North Colchester Business Centre which will help to support the needs of the business community. With easy access from the A12 it should prove the perfect location for current and new businesses looking for convenience, flexibility, plus the support and expertise of Colbea.”

Fiona Bryant, Area Director for Essex, Southend and Thurrock, East of England Development Agency said: "This business centre will play an important role in fostering entrepreneurship in Colchester and the local area, providing businesses with high-quality, affordable workspace and the support that they need to thrive."

A show office at the new Business Centre will be available to view by early August.
