More than 150 people representing 85 businesses packed in to the Weston Community Stadium in Colchester last Thursday evening (8 October 2009) for a seminar entitled “How to Grow Your Business and Prosper”.
There was standing room only to hear the speakers: Tim Rose and Jeremy Allen from Growbridge Advisors Limited spoke about Finance for Growth; Professor Heather Höpfl from the Essex Business School at the University presented on Growth through People, and Steve Clarke from Eureka Sales explained how to achieve Growth through Sales. Bob Russell MP was special guest and introduced the event; in the chair was Dr Malcolm Braithwaite, Colbea’s non-executive chairman.
A partnership event, the seminar was jointly hosted by Colbea, The Business Café, Business Link East and the University of Essex, and will be followed up by a series of workshops continuing the theme of how to “Grow and Prosper”, which will be held monthly at the Colchester Business Centre commencing on 19 October and running through until March 2010. These will cover areas such as increasing profitability, improving marketing, boosting sales and how to increase turnover using your website.
In addition to the speakers a business fair was hosted at the event, at which 21 businesses with expertise in finance, marketing, business networking, websites and staff development were available to help delegates follow up on questions raised by the speakers and to provide further assistance to delegate businesses.
Following the positive feedback the organisers are looking at hosting similar events in the future. Bob Baggalley, Colbea’s Chief Executive, said: “This event was the first of its type and we are grateful to Weston Community Stadium for offering us this fantastic facility in which to host the seminar. In a time of recession it is important that we remind ourselves of some key principles that can help businesses to prosper and grow. Our speakers didn’t disappoint!”
